Summer Safety Starts with the Right Gear
As temperatures rise, your dog's comfort and safety become a top priority. Dogs can't sweat like humans — they rely on panting and environmental cooling to regulate their body temperature. Here's how to keep your pup safe and comfortable all summer long.
1. Hydration Is Everything
Dogs need significantly more water in summer. Always carry water on walks and invest in a no-spill travel bowl. At home, consider an automatic water dispenser to ensure fresh water is always available. Our Step-On Pedal Water Dispenser makes hydration effortless — your dog activates it themselves with a simple paw press.
2. Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car
Even on a mild 70°F day, a car interior can reach 100°F within 20 minutes. This is a life-threatening situation. If your dog can't come with you, leave them at home.
3. Walk During Cooler Hours
Avoid walks between 10am–4pm in peak summer. Early morning and evening walks are cooler and safer. Test the pavement with your hand — if it's too hot for 5 seconds, it's too hot for paws.
4. Provide a Cool Resting Spot
Your dog's bed placement matters in summer. Move their bed away from direct sunlight and toward air-conditioned areas. Our USA-made Sunbrella fabric pet beds are breathable and easy to clean — perfect for summer use.
5. Watch for Heat Stroke Signs
- Excessive panting or drooling
- Bright red gums
- Lethargy or confusion
- Vomiting
If you notice these signs, move your dog to a cool area immediately, apply cool (not cold) water, and contact your vet.
6. Grooming Matters
Regular grooming removes excess undercoat that traps heat. Keep nails trimmed so your dog can walk comfortably on hot surfaces. Our BeNat Grooming Bundle has everything you need for a full summer grooming routine.
A little preparation goes a long way. Keep your dog cool, hydrated, and comfortable — and enjoy the summer together! ☀️🐾
